Irish actor Eve Hewson was every bit the vision of an Irish beauty my imagination has cultivated—pale skin with rosy cheeks, hair as dark as night, and eyes as blue as the Irish Sea. When Eve arrived to set, she emerged from her car makeup-free and hair still wet from her morning shower while cloaked in a cozy puffer jacket and a long, loosely form-fitting cotton dress and flip flops. For those of you unfamiliar with the protocol of fashion shoots, Eve arrived as a clean slate while wearing clothes and shoes that would not leave indentations on her skin. This is insider knowledge not all subjects are aware of or care about, but for the team of professionals working tirelessly behind the camera: we are utterly grateful. I liked her immediately. This awareness and respect is not always shown by Millennial and Gen Z stars, but Eve has been orbiting stardom since birth and has apparently learned lessons along the way. Her father is none other than the frontman of the rock band U2, and aside from being in one of the biggest rock bands of all time, Bono is a passionate social activist, as is his wife, Eve’s mother, Ali Hewson—I got the impression Eve grew-up without a sense of entitlement.

As an actor, Eve’s performances are dynamic and memorable. In dramatic roles, Eve has the ability to convey a range of emotions with a twist of eccentricity rooted in realism, and her comic work is delightfully idiosyncratic while being heartfelt, as can be seen in the streaming series Bad Sisters, and her latest film project, Flora and Son.

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to photograph and interview the actor weeks before the SAG strike. After spending a day on set, we caught up over Zoom and discussed her work in Flora and Son, her journey from music to acting, what being the daughter of a rock star is like, how she views fame, her definition of fashion, and why she would serve Slippery Nipples at a dinner party Franz Ferdinand is invited to.
