In the colorful realm where art and audacity collide, artist Ashley Longshore reigns supreme as a provocateur extraordinaire. With an unapologetic approach to bodacious creativity and a penchant for pushing boundaries, Longshore has carved a niche in the art world that invites audiences to confront the complexities of modern society with a healthy dose of humor and audacity. Her work attracts bold bitches, confident cunts, and dirty dicks wanting a good laugh and inspiration from artwork that beautifies their environments.
Known for her unbridled passion and style, Longshore is renowned for unabashed self-expression in the often-restrained art industry. Her work pulsates with energy and vibrant hues and fearlessly embraces classicism by repositioning it for today’s society using pop art references of consumerism, filthy language, flowers, butterflies, and bling.
Ashley Longshore for AS IF Magazine.
I had the privilege of meeting Ashley eight years ago on a helicopter ride from New York City to Hilfiger's former home in Connecticut for an intimate dinner — we become friends ever since. This New Orleans-based artist has finally opened up shop in downtown Manhattan on the iconic Crosby Street in Soho. In an industry that relies on the gallerist to decree the price and control the distribution of artwork, Ashley is determined to dictate her worth and write her own rules. Ashley’s two-story, 10,000sqft showroom is an embodiment of determination, confidence, self-expression, and inspired manifestation at its best. From the moment you walk through the doors, your eyes are greeted by a sensory explosion. Larger-than-life portraits of Hollywood divas to colorful canvases featuring male leaders and CEOs that say, Why Does A Dog Lick His Balls? Because He Can!, bedeck walls covered with pink money wallpaper and gemstone-printed flooring, also designed by the artist. Visitors can also find collectible items such as a flower vase in the shape of her hand giving the middle finger, trinket dishes that say fuck, a trucker hat with a photo of her tits printed across it, and much more.
Ashley and I spent the day together at the aforementioned showroom for this outrageous photoshoot and interview, where she provides a portal into her world of pop culture icons, biting satire, and unapologetic femininity. From humble beginnings to international acclaim, Ashley has navigated the tumultuous waters of the art world with grace and tenacity, carving out a space that is uniquely her own while doing it with an unyielding commitment to authenticity.
