Brother Velliies designer Aurora James and Pyer Moss designer Kerby Jean-Raymond have known each other for quite some time. The two have been some of the fastest rising American fashion stars of the past several years and are vocal advocates for diversity and Black representation in the fashion industry. Now, the designers have come together for a dynamic duo moment and fashion collaboration.

The Brother Vellies by Pyer Moss footwear collection is now available on both pyermoss.com and brothervellies.com The men’s and women’s footwear collections are part of Pyer Moss Collection 3, which debuted during the Pyer Moss Iconic Kings Theater runway show. The Collection 3 apparel, released earlier this month, is the culmination of “American, Also” a three-part series created to tell the often-untold stories of Black peoples’ contributions to popular American culture.

Collection 3 celebrates Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the Black woman who invented rock ‘n’ roll. Several of the Collection 3 pieces, including the Brother Vellies by Pyer Moss women’s boot, infuses artwork by recently exonerated artist Richard Phillips. Phillips wrongfully spent 45 years in prison and was exonerated of a 1971 homicide after an investigation by the Wayne County prosecutor’s office and students at the University of Michigan Law School. The art used on the shoes commemorates Tharpe’s contributions to music.

“I am proud of what my friend Aurora and I created,” said Jean-Raymond. “Collection 3 was partly inspired by Sister Rosetta Tharpe and other Black women in music so honoring their contributions by collaborating with Brother Vellies felt like home.”
