Cannabidiol seems to be everywhere these days. From balms to ingestibles, and even candles, the naturally-derived ingredient more commonly referred to as CBD is used to promote inner and outer wellness - and not just because of the plant’s relation to recreational weed. Quite different from THC, the psychoactive element of cannabis, CBD is at the center of a well-rounded, holistic beauty & wellness regimen.
CBD works with the body’s naturally occuring endocannabinoid system to promote a sense of balance within the body. When introduced to the endocannabinoid system, CBD can calm inflammation and reduce irritation, both internally and externally. In the skincare realm, this means reduced redness or breakouts, stimulated collagen and skin cell regeneration. And internally, CBD has been known to relieve joint and muscle pain through skin balms or ingested oils.
“The largest misconception is still CBD’s association with marijuana, or psychoactive cannabis,” said Gunhee Park, founder of CBD brand Populum. “Many people won't try CBD products as they believe they consider it taboo or worse, that they're going to get high. Populum’s core mission is to help reframe the way people view CBD by providing premium, high-quality products designed to be a part of one's daily wellness ritual.”
Populum is part of a growing number of wellness and lifestyle brands that have been at the forefront of clearing up the confusion between CBD and THC.
Kerrigan Behrens, co-founder and CMO of CBD brand Sagely Naturals, explained that by law, hemp is a cannabis plant that contains less than 0.3% THC. “We go to the extra step of removing all trace amounts of THC in our products, so people can feel assured that they’re not going to have any unwanted side effects,” she said.
“We choose to use whole plant, full spectrum CBD oil derived from hemp because we believe it’s higher quality and provides more benefits,” Behrens said. “The CBD oil we use looks like solid honey; it’s thick, complex and full of nature’s goodness for you and has a lot of other benefits that go beyond just the CBD that is within the hemp plant.”
“Our core mission is to help reframe the way people view CBD by providing premium, high-quality products designed to be a part of one’s daily wellness ritual.”

SKINCARE
“When used on skin, CBD’s anti-inflammatory property could benefit skin conditions, ranging from sores, acne, and many more,” explained Park. When applied to the skin, CBD interacts with the body’s cannabinoid receptors to help regulate and regenerate skin cells. Additionally, the natural ingredient serves as a powerful antioxidant that allows a more radiant, youthful look to skin.
Hora Skincare identified CBD as a skin-healing ingredient with anti-aging properties that work well alongside super ingredients like marine collagen, argan oil, evening primrose and rosehip oil to hydrate, protect and regenerate skin. Hora used CBD in both a Super Serum and exfoliating Overnight Mask. When used together, the products help to regenerate skin and provide a healthy, soft glow.
CBD brand Prima uses scientific integrity and education techniques to bring CBD to the forefrunt of the plant-based wellness industry. Its skincare items, face and body butter called Skin Therapy and a nighttime oil called Night Magic, each nourish and tone the skin to support radiance and balance.
