De Beers group has tapped Indira Scott for their new ReSet initiative. ReSet is a series of collaborations with jewelry designers to engage in conversations around sustainability and to offer a fresh perspective on the positive impacts of natural diamonds.
The ReSet Collective, the initiative’s first activation, debuted a high-jewelry capsule in collaboration with five leading U.S. jewelry designs who focus on natural diamonds and sustainable sourcing including Jade Trau, Jennie Kwon, Julez Bryant, Sara Weinstock, and Zoë Chicco. The high jewelry capsule launched on November 17 at Sotheby’s with an online auction for charity. The proceeds were split equally between NAACP Legal Defense Fund and Stepping Stones International.
NAACP is continuing on its lifelong mission of securing political, educational, social, and economic equality in order to eliminate race-based discrimination against the Black community. Stepping Stones International’s goal is to unlock the potential of vulnerable children and youth in Botswana by providing sustainable opportunities for self-sufficiency, empowering them to achieve their dreams and become leaders of their communities.
Scott modeled the pieces among the urban surroundings of New York City to complement the unique rough diamonds, diverse textures, and contemporary shapes of the pieces.
“I'm thrilled to be part of the new ReSet Collective campaign with De Beers Group,” Scott said. “This collective of independent female designers has been so inspiring to me. Each of their stunning designs tells its own unique story about the important positive impact that diamonds help create for the people and wildlife of Botswana. It’s important for me to work with brands that are aligned with my own values and convictions, and De Beers’ support for the communities where it operates shows that it is possible to wear something beautiful while giving back. With the profits of these pieces going to the NAACP LDF and Stepping Stones International in Botswana, I’m especially proud to be involved.”
De Beers was in a unique position to launch their ReSet initiative, as they operate across the entire diamond pipeline from exploration to retail. To switch to a more sustainable model was very seamless for them. Most people actually aren’t aware of how diamond mines work.
Last year, De Beers organized an event where the First Lady of Botswana addressed an audience of jewelry designers and asked them if they had ever visited a diamond mine. Very few hands were raised. De Beers saw this as an opportunity to connect designers with where diamonds come from, so, they began hosting designers at their company operations in Botswana.
