Our European VIP Relations Editor, Jimmy Neda, convinced me to try his favorite Swedish skincare lines. In the midst of our closed office and self-quarantining reality, the timing could not be more perfect for focusing on self-care, but I wanted to know what made Swedish skincare products, specifically his recommended skincare products, different from other skincare. While some brands embrace locally sourced and indigenous ingredients, others are focused on quality ingredients with specific beneficial properties regardless of where they are from. However, the uniting factors that each brand has is their dedication to uncomplicated, clean ingredients that are both effective and pure, and simple packaging—oh how Swedish!
Below are the five brands and my favorite products that brought some beauty and self-love into my self-quarantine beauty habits that I will take with me long after this crisis is over. And yes, they all deliver to the US!
FACE STOCKHOLM
Face Stockholm is a brand familiar to New Yorkers. They were the first beauty brand to open a stand-alone shop in Soho, and though they have closed those doors in recent years, guest to New York staying at The Mercer Hotel can enjoy their creams, balms and soaps. Known for their colorful and playful makeup palates of shadows, lipsticks, and nail color, they also have a popular skincare line beloved by more than just the Swedes. Founder, Gun Nowak had trendy fashion stores throughout Stockholm in the 70s and could never find colorful makeup to complete her looks, and as the saying goes “necessity is the mother of invention”, and in 1982 Face Stockholm was born. Gun now runs the company with her daughter, Martina Arfwidson, and though their ingredients are not sourced in Sweden, they work with manufacturers around the globe to learn about the best new natural skincare ingredients on the market.
Seaweed eye cream
Seaweed extract, cucumber extract, peptides, vitamin E, Retinyl Palmitate and neem leaf extract provide relief and hydration while softening the skin. I found this eye cream to be too thick for the day, but proved to be very effective overnight. I like a lot of pillows when I sleep, plus I sleep on my side, so I tend to wake-up with lines around my eyes from where my skin creased in the night. However, since using this extremely rich, emollient cream I wake up with the area around my eyes moisturized, much less creased, and less puffy!
