South Korean artist Haegue Yang is getting her first solo show in Italy. The artist, best known for her use of everyday household objects in her works, is set to launch an exhibit in September at La Triennale di Milano, a design and art museum in Milan.

Titled “Haegue Yang: Tightrope Walking and Its Wordless Shadow,” the showcase is being organized with the help of Fondazione Furla, the brainchild of Furla president Giovanna Furlanetto dedicated to supporting and fostering emerging creative talent. “It is a great pleasure to be working with a prestigious Italian institution like the Triennale, a true touchstone for the cultural life of our city and country,” said Furlanetto in a release. “In this exhibition by Haegue Yang, we are working with the Triennale to highlight a practice whose complex language and creative choices exquisitely convey the wide range of experiences that contemporary art has to offer.”

Curated by Bruna Roccasalva, the exhibit will include a wide assortment of the artist's works including photo collages, videos, sculptures, and large-scale instillations. It will be spread out over three rooms, where recurring themes will include “abstraction and geometry, movement and performativity, and the relationship between folding and unfolding.”

Yang’s exhibit will run September 7 — November 4, 2018.

HAEGUE YANG

Haegue Yang is a South Korean artist based out of Berlin and Seoul. Her work is predominantly focused on found objects, where she creates large-scale instillations using everyday items such as Spam cans, clothing racks, or Venetian blinds—one of her signatures. She also produces works across a range of mediums, from performance instillations to paper collages and staged theatre pieces. Yang's art has been featured at the Venice Biennale, the New Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Taipei Biennial, but this new exhibit will be her first time showing solo in Italy.
