Luxury menswear lifestyle brand John Varvatos and the critically acclaimed Emmy winning HBO drama series Game of Thrones have launched an exclusive menswear capsule collection. The collection debuts in anticipation of the groundbreaking final season of the hit series in an ode to the iconic styling of the show’s costumes infused with the John Varvatos rebel spirt.
Varvatos met with the team at HBO, and both were fans of the other. He’s been a big fan of the shows costumes especially calling them “The best costumes in the history of television.” This marks the first time John Varvatos has partnered with a television series for a clothing collection, making the brand the only luxury fashion collaboration in official partnership with HBO for the final season of Game of Thrones.
Collaborations have been a part of the John Varvatos brand for many years. He collaborated with Converse on sneakers for 15 years, and last year he also did a collaboration with pop superstar Nick Jonas. The 11-piece collection delves deep into the world of Game of Thrones with artisanal hand dyed leather outerwear, cross-over Henley, pants, a textured messenger bag and graphic prints depicted on spray dyed tees. Iconic details from the series are woven in throughout the collection, including in outerwear pieces that boast the Iron Throne motif printed on the inside of the jacket.
Combining the core aesthetics of the two entities, the collection maintains the authentic attitude of the John Varvatos brand with details inherent to moments in the series for Game of Thrones fans. “Collaborations do best when they make sense, and if brands can have fun with it,” Varvatos said. “If you can add value to what you do and what someone else does, that’s great.”

He added that, “A great collaboration is made by two like minded people or two companies that share a similar vision.”
“As we prepare for the final season of Game of Thrones, we wanted to celebrate with an incredible collaboration for a clothing line inspired by the show,” said Jeff Peters, vice president of licensing and retail at HBO. “John Varvatos had delivered a stunning collection of high quality pieces that are fashionable and wearable, while also capturing the show’s essence through its details and ornate design. We couldn’t be happier with the final product and are excited to see how fans react.”
While the menswear aficionados and the Game of Thrones cult fans can be seen as two very sets of customers, Varvatos said, “This is our present customer for sure. The clothing dials exactly into what we are doing. The average guy that shops here likes pieces that are a little edgy, but what it really gets down to is these pieces are artisan hand made pieces, and the type of thing we’ve been doing since 2000, so it’s right in the wheelhouse for our guys.”
Every piece, excluding the T-shirts, are hand numbered and limited-edition, and all the garments were made by hand. Some pieces, like the leather jackets, were limited to just a total of 50 available worldwide.
The collection will be sold at select John Varvatos boutiques, online at johnvarvatos.com/got, Bloomingdale’s in the U.S.A., Harry Rosen in Canada, and El Palacio in Mexico.
