Junya Watanabe loves good décor, and he’s loaned his eye for detail to popular outerwear brands Canada Goose and North Face. For his fall/winter 2018 Junya Watanabe MAN collection he was all about the collaborations, with Canada Goose and North Face being some of his most notable ones.

This season, the designer blended work wear and menswear for a high-fashion approach to the utilitarian. The cold weather jackets were done with Watanabe’s unique flare, including cargo pants with yellow hi-vis stripes. The protection of one’s body from the arctic chill shouldn’t come at the expense of fashion, as Watanabe evidenced for us with this collection.

The Canada Goose styles were inspired by archive models, and featured tactical jackets reimagined in Artic Tech fabric, industrial jackets and a jacket inspired by Squall liner.

The North Face pieces were designed retaining the classic luster of the brand and were done with matching puffer scarves. The trek gear trend is well on the way, as some elements of normcore have begun finding their way back into fashion trends.

These collaborations are a reminder that functional fashion is never to be underestimated. Don’t sell the power of a good winter jacket short.
