Your eyes may be the windows to your soul, but your smile is the open door. A genuine smile is transformative and scientifically proven to raise the endorphin levels of the person smiling and the benefactor of that smile. The brain releases tiny molecules when a person smiles, called neuropeptides, that help fight off stress. Other neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins kick in—endorphins act as mild pain relievers, while serotonin is an antidepressant. A study conducted by the Association for Psychological Science suggests that even forcing a smile will boost both your mood and happiness level, as well as the mood and happiness of those around you. Science aside, another good reason to keep smiling is that it enhances our beauty and restores our vitality. The beauty and wellness industry thrives, so why succumb to the inevitable wear and tear of time when you have the option not to? Many people have their plastic surgeons and dermatologists on speed dial, and their hair salon appointments scheduled every three months, but somehow feel that if they brush and floss their teeth and get a cleaning every six months, they are stopping the hands of time, but nothing shows a person’s age more than aging teeth.
