In the 1970s, Richard O’Brien was living as an unemployed actor in London. To help pass the time, he began writing a little musical inspired by B-movies, science fiction, and horror. The musical told the story of a newly engaged couple who are caught in a storm and find themselves in the home of a mad scientist and transvestite, Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
