Biannual trade show, Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF) will be host to a special project this year titled Enlightenment. Featuring works by Virgil Abloh, Naomi Campbell, Peter Saville and Nick Knight, the project has been co-curated by Machine-A’s Stavros Karelis and London-based curator, Sami Janjer.

The initiative’s prime aim is to raise awareness about non-profit organization Little Sun Foundation’s efforts to promote affordable solar energy across the Sub-Saharan Africa.

The unique pieces of work inspired by power, influence and “beauty of light” will highlight this cause and emphasize the importance of benevolence, generosity and humanitarianism.

“The solar-powered lamps that the Little Sun Project provides can improve their health as well as protect our environment. I hope that the art created by Peter Saville and I for ENLIGHTENMENT, will raise awareness and highlight the impact of the great work that Little Sun does.”

While acclaimed filmmaker and photographer Nick Knight will showcase a short film focused on the theme of “light,” newly minted Louis Vuitton artistic director Virgil Abloh has created a limited-edition product for the show.

Model and activist Naomi Campbell, on the other hand, has joined forces with iconic graphic designer Peter Saville to create ten original artworks.

Explaining her involvement in the project, Campbell said, "I believe that everyone has the basic right to breathe in clean air. So many families around the globe are forced to breathe in toxic kerosene fumes due to the lack of access to electricity. The solar-powered lamps that the Little Sun Project provides can improve their health as well as protect our environment. I hope that the art created by Peter Saville and I for ENLIGHTENMENT, will raise awareness and highlight the impact of the great work that Little Sun does.”

Founded in 2012 by Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen the Little Sun Foundation works to support local economies in disadvantaged regions and bring clean, affordable light to those studying, cooking, and working after dark.

"I’m incredibly proud of CIFF’s long track record of supporting and nurturing talent and creativity. And what could be more fundamental to creating than light? You can’t sketch or sculpt or sew in darkness. This is why the Little Sun Foundation with it’s brilliantly simple and beautiful lamp is so essential. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to lend our support,” said CIFF Creative Director, Kristian W. Andersen.

ENLIGHTENMENT featuring works from Virgil Abloh, Naomi Campbell, Peter Saville and Nick Knight will be on show exclusively at CIFF SS19.
