The sneakerheads and the art community are about to have something to fight over. Jordan Brand has announced the release of its capsule collection with contemporary artist Nina Chanel Abney featuring eleven genderless pieces of ready-to-wear, footwear-, and accessories including a Nina Chanel Abney x Jordan Brand collection hoodie, top, funnel-neck top, pants, sports bra, T-shirt, and Air Jordan high and low 2 SE.

Nina Chanel Abney has shown her dedication to the intersection of art and sports. She’s helped revived old basketball courts in New York and North Carolina, including a new mural at Juan Morel Campos Secondary School in Brooklyn, New York.

Chanel Abney’s collaboration with Jordan Brand is a lifelong dream for the artist. She’s been an avid basketball fan since she was a kid and remembers Michael Jordan when he was in his heyday playing for the Chicago Bulls guiding the team to the NBA championship. It was during her youth that Chanel Abney also became obsessed with collecting basketball cards and sports memorabilia. In a way, this collaboration with Jordan Brand is a full-circle moment for her.

“No one understands the power, relevance, and reach of basketball culture more than Nina Chanel Abney, as she is a living embodiment of its legacy. This collaboration is as much about the design of an idea as it is about the product,” said Andrea Perez, Jordan Brand Women’s GM. “While much of the work we do at Jordan Brand is to prepare the now and next generation for their futures, we’re doing so by expanding the reach of the Jumpman so that it can ultimately be a symbol for what it means to break boundaries while building bridges.”

This collaboration marks a new medium for Chanel Abney as it was her first time using clothes as a canvas. Fashion is one of our greatest art forms, after all, it’s the one we live our lives in.
