Imagine all your favorite childhood Disney Villains come to life in high-fashion glamour. Such was the work of designers David and Phillipe Blond of The Blonds at New York Fashion Week. The design duo known for their glitz and glam designs, that have won the hearts of everyone from Lil’ Kim to Cardi B, came together with Disney for a luxury fashion collection inspired by some of Disney’s most wicked characters from Maleficent to Cruella De Vil for their spring/summer 2019 collection.

Their fashion show started with a video mashup of scenes from Disney films featuring each of the Disney Villains that The Blonds used as inspiration. This included Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, Evil Queen, the Queen of Hearts, Dr. Facillier, Ursula and her dark eel minions Flotsam and Jetsam.

At their runway show, the video was immediately followed by a reveal of Phillip who opened the show wearing a bodysuit, coat and crown adorned with mirrored tiles reflecting the spotlights. Their models were plenty to write home about as well. Paris Hilton modeled a look that was inspired by Cruella De Vil, Youtube beauty sensation Patrick Starr modeled an Ursula inspired option while gender fluid models the Dupont Twins played her eel minions Flotsam and Jetsam, and Pose star Dominique Jackson made a marvelous Maleficent.

“Disney Villains have long lived in the dark shadows of the beloved heroes and heroines of their stories, and yet these characters are just as celebrated,” said Ken Potrock, president, consumer products and commercialization at Disney. “Through our collaboration with The Blonds, some of Disney’s most notorious villains will be reimagined in totally unexpected ways during one of fashion’s most important weeks.”

“The Disney Villains style is iconic and has inspired us since childhood and throughout our career. The opportunity to collaborate with Disney and see these designs come to life on The Blonds runway is an absolute dream come true,” said David and Phillipe.

As part of the creative process, Phillipe and David toured the Disney Archive Research Library where they learned about each villain’s mythology and viewed the inspiration behind the iconic animation of these characters, including original artwork and sculpts.

“What drew us to working with Disney Villains are the complex attributes of the characters themselves,” said David. “Often misunderstood, Disney Villains are flawed, imposing and mysterious, and we loved the idea of taking these characteristics and translating them in a glamorous way, making them the heroes of our story.”
