They have both been icons of fashion in their own right, but now Riccardo Tisci and Vivienne Westwood have come together for a collection that will be described in one word: iconic. The duo will be collaborating on a collection of re-imagined iconic Burberry styles in celebration of British style and heritage.

The limited-edition collection will be the first collaboration for Burberry under their new creative director Tisci, and will launch this December.

Tisci said, “Vivienne Westwood was one of the first designers who made me dream to become a designer myself and when I first started at Burberry, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to approach her to do something. She is a rebel, a punk and unrivalled in her unique representation of British style, which has inspired so many of us. I am so incredibly proud of what we will be creating together.”

The collaboration will support rainforest charity Cool Earth, a non-profit organization that works alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation and its impact on climate change.

Tisci was a bit of a surprise appointment at Burberry, following Christopher Bailey who was much more classic high fashion in his approach to design. The designer is expected to utilize his celebrity network and more edgy approach to design to continue to propel Burberry forward in an era of high streetwear and influencer focused fashions. It was a smart choice for him to partner with Westwood, who has always been seen as ahead of the curve.

Vivienne Westwood began designing in 1971 along with her then partner Malcolm McLaren in London. At the time they used their shop at 430 Kings Road, London, to showcase their ideas and designs. With their changing ideas of fashion came the change of not only the name of the shop but also the décor. It was in 1976 when Westwood and McLaren defined the street culture of Punk with Seditionaries.

With a design record spanning over forty years, Vivienne Westwood is now recognized as a global brand and Westwood herself as one of the most influential fashion designers, and activists, in the world today.
