Zoë Chao is an actor you want to see more of. Zoë's performances are genuine and captivating; whether she is playing the best friend, someone’s lover, or the lead, one thing is clear—the more screen time she has, the more engaging the project is, and the more you want to see her: those are the elements that make someone a star. Despite popular belief, a star is not born overnight. Zoë, a Brown University graduate raised by her Chinese father and English-Irish mother—both artists and teachers—has been diligently paving her way through Hollywood’s hurdles to make a rightful spot for herself on the A-List. That coveted list has been around since the studio system came into existence and historically consisted of the most talented and bankable white actors the industry had to offer. However, history is always being rewritten, and Zoë is a part of the rewrite. AS IF magazine recently sat down with the actor to talk about her early roots and love of art, how she is navigating Hollywood, her style icons, and the importance of representation on the big and small screen.
