Alessandro Trincone has come a long way since one of his dresses appeared on the cover of Young Joc’s album cover. The designer, who was formerly part of V-Files Collective, began holding his own standalone presentation at New York Fashion Week: Men’s last July, and this season he returned to New York Fashion Week to debut his fall/winter 2019 collection. Titled “Anveilmi” from unveil, the collection explored the concept of unveiling yourself with many sheer ephemeral garments.

“My inspiration for the collection this season was to try and create a new identity that is without gender,” Trincone said. The collection juxtaposed the idea of unveiling yourself and revealing your authenticity against the idea of covering yourself up to protect your soul from prejudices. The use of materials like feathers was meant to unveil, while eco-friendly furs are used to cover up.

While many of Trincone’s pieces in the past have been very avant-garde, this season he did a few pieces that were closer to regular wearability. “It was an experiment for me, because I wanted to introduce the collection to more women, and also introduce it to different kinds of people,” Trincone said. “I wanted to do something that mixed both my avant-garde style and haute couture style.”

Genderless clothing is without question on the rise as Trincone’s fastest growing customer base is actually American men. “America has always been my dream country to be as a designer, so even though I don’t know why so many American men are drawn to my clothes, it’s good for me because it’s still a dream come true,” Trincone said.

Trincone doesn’t have any hard expectations for where he wants the brand to go next, but he says, “I just want to grow up and reach out to people who believe in me and my fashion.”
