Alessandro Michele isn’t the only one in the spotlight at Gucci. Dapper Dan, friend and partner to the house, has collaborated with the house again, this time for a special limited-edition book dedicated to him. The book was produced by Gucci and shot by filmmaker and photographer Ari Marcopolous. Titled Dapper Dan’s Harlem, the book will officially launched on January 8 at a cocktail party at the Gucci Garden during Pitti Uomo 95.

The limited-edition book documents Marcopoulos’ journey through Harlem, Dapper Dan’s home and the location of his eponymous atelier, which Gucci actually helped the designer reopen in December 2017.

Dapper Dan’s original claim to fame was his boutique in Harlem, which originally operated from 1982 to 1992, and was associated with introducing high fashion to the hip-hop community. His clients over the years included Eric B. & Rakim, Salt-N-Pepa-LL Cool J, and Jay-Z.

The book also includes a host of original images shot on location in Harlem, in addition to portraits of friends of the House and Dapper Dan such as artist, director and designer Trevor Andrew, artist, poet and author Cleo Wade, restauranteur and Harlem chef Marcus Samuelsson, and business and author Steve Stoute.

This marks the second book for Gucci by Ari Marcopoulous. In 2016, Gucci release Epiphany, a limited-edition title featuring images captured during a shoot that took place in a palazzo in Milan to document the pre-fall 2016 Gucci Collections for women and men, designed by creative director Alessandro Michele.

The book priced at $200 will be limited to 500 copies through IDEA the London-based independent publisher. It will also be available at Gucci Garden in Florence and the Gucci Wooster Bookstore in New York.
