This little Gucci went to market, this little Gucci stayed home, and this little Gucci cried “Wee, wee, wee” all the way to the store. With Chinese New Year just around the corner beginning on February 5, Gucci is celebrating with a Year of the Pig capsule collection.

Different pig motifs embellish the collection, either with one protagonist designed by Gucci or with the Walt Disney cartoon character that first appeared in the animated United Artists short film Three Little Pigs, produced in 1933.

Adorable little pigs adorn a wide selection of pieces for both women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, luggage, small leather goods, shoes and accessories.

Women’s pajamas, intarsia knitwear, t-shirts and sweatshirts feature the Gucci designed character, as do scarves, beanies, socks, and men’s knitted cardigans and t-shirts. Disney’s Three Little Pig characters appear on patches adoring ACE sneakers, Gucci Supreme backpacks, tote bags and wallets, as well as one a women’s oversize denim shirt, men’s shirt and a lightweight blouson. In addition, an exclusive watch was designed for the capsule collection. The original Disney poster for Three Little Pigs has also been printed on a white cotton t-shirt and woven on a sweater.

One of the crown jewels of the collection is an exclusive eyewear style that has been created, reinterpreting one of the House’s hexagonal shapes in a red shade.

Gucci Year of the Pig

I’m sure we’ve all heard the phrase “when pigs fly”, and Gucci has decided to almost take that literally. There are three fashion jewelry pieces featuring a pig with wings in colored resin and metal with an aged old finish. Two are brooches and one is a cuff bracelet bedazzled with crystals.

The 35-piece collection is featured across Gucci’s digital channels and in select Gucci stores worldwide. All items come with dedicated Chinese New Year packaging.

Store windows will also highlight the collection in select stores in Asia: red matelassé upholstery featuring the pig motifs will entirely cover the walls and floors, as well the boxes displaying the products.

The collection is accompanied by an editorial campaign shot by photographer Frank Lebon, the images depict a variety of characters leading their luxurious New York lives with their pet pigs in tow. Is Gucci bringing back the Paris Hilton teacup pig trend?
