No matter what time of the year, you can count on Kenzo to make a statement. This season, the French luxury retailer won’t be making an appearance on the runway and has instead debuted a fashion film.

Written and directed by Kenzo’s Creative Director Humberto Leon, ‘The Everything’ stars Milla Jovovich and Jay Ellis. The film abandons the typical six to ten minute run time that usually spans a fashion film, for a 29 minute short with steady dialogue and a strong plot.

“One of the things that was most exciting is having asked the actors and actresses in the film about what their roles meant and what their contributions meant,” Leon explained during a Q&A following the screening. “I really love to collaborate, and I collaborated with each and every one of them. They brought their own spirit into the roles. That’s the way I love to work.”

The plot follows a family of teenagers with extraordinary powers inspired by Leon’s own dreams. One of the key characters is the mother Georgie played by Jovovich who struggles to keep her family together. The central focus of the story remains family values and teenage angst something the director has emphasized on throughout the film.

Part of Kenzo’s fall campaign, the characters are seen sporting pieces from Kenzo’s fall-winter 2018 collection—which are available for purchase now.

Leon who makes his writing and directorial debut with this film, has transformed the way the brand communicates with the audience since coming on board. The creative director has developed a keen focus on cinema commissioning films from Spike Jonze, Gregg Araki, Sean Baker, Carrie Brownstein, Kahlil Joseph, Natasha Lyonne and Ana Lily Amirpour.

The Everything debuted on kenzo.com on September 8th and is available to stream both on the website and Youtube.
