Fashion may no longer have Michelle Obama as their favorite political figure to help push their products into the public eye, but all is not lost because Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is still here to help you get your wardrobe inspiration. When Pelosi was photographed leaving a meeting in the West Wing with Donald Trump in her Max Mara Fire Coat, the photo went viral, and customers were demanding that Max Mara bring the now iconic coat back.

Well, the company has heard their pleas and has announced the reinstitution of the iconic style. The coat was originally designed in 2011 for the fall/winter 2012 collection, and Pelosi wore it for the first time to attend the second inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States in January 2013.

“The Fire Coat is a boule shaped coat with a funnel collar - which is very feminine - but it has a shoulder and sleeve that are cut quite sharply,” said Ian Griffiths, creative director of Max Mara. “So whilst the body is soft, the shoulders give it structure. That contrast between masculine and feminine gives it modernity. This coat was designed over 6 years ago; a good coat is a life companion so it should be designed not to date. Ms. Pelosi wore this coat to the Presidential Inauguration in 2013, and again for her historic meeting at the White House in 2018, so it clearly means something to her. You develop an emotional relationship with a coat like nothing else in your wardrobe and Max Mara coats are much more than just clothes. They represent lasting values, they project personal strength and glamour. I can imagine why Ms. Pelosi chose to wear the Fire Coat for this important moment and I’m honored.”

Red might be the Republican party’s color, but Pelosi is making a statement in it as the most powerful Democratic woman in politics.
