“Collaborating with Max Mara has been an exciting challenge, one that required a considerable amount of time, creativity, and many drawings,” said artist Judy Chicago regarding her fashion collaboration with Max Mara. “Building on my early biomorphic imagery and working with Max Mara’s color palette, I am very pleased with the end result that came from a real collaborative effort with the fashion house.”

On Monday, December 3 Max Mara celebrated the pioneering feminist artist and her major solo survey Judy Chicago: A Reckoning which opened at ICA Miami. Chicago along with ICA’s artistic director Alex Gartenfeld and Max Mara’s global brand ambassador Maria Giulia Maramotti welcomed guests to Soho House Miami’s rooftop for a private dinner.

Max Mara’s Maria Giulia Maramotti notes, “as a committed supporter of the arts, Max Mara is proud to partner with ICA Miami for the opening of Judy Chicago's Survey during Art Basel. A pioneer in her field, Judy's trailblazing works have paved the way for many female artists. Max Mara is honored to support both her efforts and those of ICA Miami."

Chicago is best known for her contributions to the 1970s feminist art movement and for subverting male art and designs crafts such as boat and car building. Her piece Bigamy Hood was the inspiration for the T-shirt collaboration with Max Mara.

“The Max Mara woman is successful,” said Max Mara designer Ian Griffiths. “She's made it on her own terms and she wants to be taken seriously. As a long standing feminist artist who has found a powerful voice, Judy is the ideal partner for Max Mara. Max Mara clothes are well designed and discrete — this collaboration is a reminder that classic does not mean conservative. The graphic is iconic Judy Chicago but the colorway is drawn from the classic Max Mara palette. In that sense, it underlines the brand’s commitment to the empowerment of women.”

Judy Chicago: A Reckoning connects seven important bodies of work produced by the artist between the 1960s and 1990s, including historic and lesser-known works that will be on public view for the first time in decades. In keeping with ICA Miami’s commitment to expanding narratives in contemporary art and developing new scholarship, the exhibit examines ideas and works not commonly associated with the iconic artist.

The t-shirt retails for $245, and will be available for sale at select Max Mara flagships in January 2019.
