On September 26, 2019 New York City Ballet will present its annual Fall Fashion Gala, celebrating the choreography and costume design with two world premiere works showcasing some of today’s most exciting artists from the worlds of dance and fashion. The lucky designers selected for this year are none other than Zac Posen and Anna Sui.
For the company’s eight edition of the Fall Fashion Gala, Edwaard Liang, artistic director of BalletMet and a former dancer with NYCB and Nederlands Dans Theater, will create his first original work for NYCB where Anna Sui’s costumes will be featured. The music for the Liang preimiere will be an untitled new work for solo violin and orchestra by composer Oliver Davis, which will debut at the Fall Gala performance.
The second world premiere will be choreographed by New York City Ballet Principal Dancer and choreographer Lauren Lovette. Her third work for NYCB, the new Lovette premiere will be set to Tan Dun’s Fire Ritual for solo violin and orchestra, and will feature costumes by Zac Posen.
