From ancient greek goddesses to early 1400s Italy, before the Kardashian pouts and duck face became the thing of the moment, thin, barely-there lips were all the rage.

Nevertheless, despite evolving beauty standards, lips have been an undeniably important part of culture symbolizing sensuality and sexuality. This razor focus on enhancing your lips goes as far back as the Sumerian civilization where women procured lip stains through natural substances such as fruits, and henna. Women even went as far as using insects to plump their lips.

If that seems extreme let's fast forward to 2018, where a casual scroll on google will lead you to a plethora of articles and quizzes that will tell you what your lip shape tells you about your personality or how you can make them look bigger or plumper. Lip enhancement treatments are at their peak as are cosmetic procedures that claim to reduce fine lines around the area. Social media has only fuelled augmentation surgeries with Instagram feeds full of influencers sporting the perfect pout.

No wonder we want to protect and book that next lip filler appointment asap.

But getting that perfect lip is no cakewalk and we're here to guide you through it.

PICKING THE RIGHT BALM

With fall at its peak and winter lurking round the corner, dry and cracking lips remain one of the biggest concerns. And we are all too familiar with the damage a wrong lip balm or oil can do, often leaving our lips drier. Ouch!

To save you from pitfalls of experiments and running cluelessly through Sephora, we've curated a a range of cult lip balms and treatments

NEXT UP: LIP PROCEDURES

From Bella Thorne to Kylie Jenner, lip enhancement procedures and surgeries have never been more popular. Once you've nailed that lip balm, next in line is procuring the perfect Instagram pout. Fillers and implants are some of the easiest and qucikest ways to plump and shape your lips. Juvederm, Restylane, Voluma, and Perlane are some of the semi-permanent in-office procedures that involve minimal risk. If this is your first lip augmentation procedure, we recommend starting Juvederm Ultra Plus, since it involves a numbing medication (for the faint of heart), and is fairly non-invasive.

But if you're past the experimentation stage and sure what works with the natural symmetry of your lips, implants might be your answer. Permalip is a surgical, and invasive procedure where an implant is placed under your lip fat after making an incision. The procedure only takes less than hour and costs upto a $4000 but will last for years!

FINDING THE PERFECT LIP COLOR

Bored of alternating between the deep red and burgundy lip colors for fall? Same. Now that you have your desired lips, top it off with a poppy color.

Toss the reds and peaches for a lovely blue and just the right shade of brick red.

Try our top picks for the perfect finish to your best fall lips.
