Faith Connexion is entering a new era. For fall/winter 2019, the brand debuted their first collection by their first creative director Nikola Vasari.

The collection exudes the juxtaposition of the Far East meeting the West Coast of the United States - fusing inspirations from Asian streetwear and anime culture, combined with the visceral grunge emotions of the 1980’s and early 90’s rock-n-roll enamored fashion of Courtney Love, Grace Jones and Lou Reed. Glamrock is back, baby! And in a big way at that too.

The designer’s first collection was a highly collaborative effort featuring collaborations by NTMB (Never Too Much Basic), Pisco Logik. U.K. based rocker-chic streetwear brand The Rockins, American based perfecto leather jacket specialists Schott, and lingerie by New York based emerging brand KAIMIN.

“Collaborations are integral to Faith Connexion’s DNA, and we will continue this trajectory,” Vasari said. “It’s a way to blue the fine lines between different categories: music, art, film and fashion. Some of the designers involved have been part of Faith’s collective for a few years now.”

Although Glam Rock was trending for fall/winter 2019, Vasari didn’t intend to go that route when he started designing the collection. “The mood turned very glam rock working working on the line up for the show,” Vasari said. “The runway represents a very small part from what we offer to buyers. I wanted to a highlight a more nocturnal and let’s say ‘flamboyant’ party people were maybe not used to seeing from Faith Connexion, which turned in a more stage glam allegory. From the beginning of the creative process though I was inspired by music icons through history and surrounded myself with them. These references included Bowie of course, but we are also including Nina Hagen, Nirvana or Michael Jackson.”

The collection also included a lot of East meets West references, fusing inspirations from Asian streetwear and anime culture, combined with the visceral grunge emotions of the 1980’s and early 90’s rock-n-roll enamored fashion of Courtney Love, Grace Jones and Lou Reed. As is often with designers, Vasari was influenced by his travels, specifically to Tokyo and Los Angeles.

Although Faith Connexion is entering a new phase of growth and design, Vasari champions a collection that is for all of the brand’s customers. “What I love about Faith is that we don’t necessarily have one type of customer,” he said. “The collection is constructed in a way that you can find a variety of styles to create a look l that don’t necessarily goes with a specific gender or age. It’s also very exciting to see that we are getting interest from new markets like Asia and Middle East and still growing our presence in Europe and America.”

Vasari’s new turn as creative director isn’t his first time with the brand either. “It all started back in 2014 when I came working for the brand as style consultant and then on a capsule collection with my own label NVDS,” Vasari said. “Many seasons and collections helped me setting up bases and put a stamp on the brand’s ID. I believe these years gave me a strong understanding of the Faith Connexion’s DNA, its needs and the capacity to create a vision for the future.”

Faith Connexion might have a creative director for the first time in the brand’s history, but it continues to be the creative melting pot it always has been.
